COMPETITIVENESS INDEXES OF STRAWBERRY (Fragaria vesca L.) FROM MÉXICO IN THE GLOBAL MARKET

Abstract

The principal strawberry (Fragaria vesca L.) producing countries in the world are United States of America (USA), México, Turkey and Spain, and jointly they contribute around 68 % of the production; the USA has the largest surface harvested and volume, and México occupies the fifth place as exporter. The competitiveness indexes of the Mexican strawberry trade were analyzed, through indicators of the relative commercial balance, indicator of tradability, coefficient of commercial dependency, and degree of exporting openness. The results obtained reflected that the strawberry produced in México is internationally competitive.
