Abstract

The effectiveness and persistence of the ChitinaseDehydrogenase 5 Enzymatic Complex against natural infestations of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus was evaluated in bovines of the Mexican tropics. For this purpose, 22 bovines were used which were distributed in two groups of (n=11), receiving the following treatments: group one treated with ChitinaseDehydrogenase 5 Enzymatic Complex, in spray bath at a dose of 1 mL for every liter of water (5 liters per animal), group two without treatment (control). The number of adult ticks was defined on days 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 post-treatment (PT). The results indicated a statistical difference (p=0.0001). The CHEC-5 had effectiveness over 95 % starting on day three. The average of ticks in the group treated decreased significantly. It is concluded that the high effectiveness of CHEC-5 topically for the control of R. microplus populations shows the feasibility as an alternative for tick control in bovines of the Mexican tropics. It was shown that CHEC-5 presents effectiveness of 95 % from day three until day five post-treatment.
