Abstract

Objective: The objective of this research was to characterize the social capital (CS) and its economic performance in producers (n=273) of cow's milk (PLV), goat's milk (PLC) and pig meat (PCC) located in Chihuahua.

Design/methodology/approximation: The characterization of producers was done through a survey, based on trust criteria (C), cooperation and collaboration (CC), organizational regulations (NO), associativity (A) and social networks (RS). Likewise, the performance of the producers was measured through the criteria of efficiency (E1) effectiveness (E2) and competent (E3).

Results: The results indicate a CS for all producers of 78.1%; For PLV 68.9%, PCC 79.2% and PLC 85.8%. Likewise, the performance for all the producers was 62.4%; For PLV 60.1%, PLC 74.7% and PVC 75.7%. Social capital (CS) allows a better take-up of human capital, monetary and natural production systems.

Limitations of the study/implications: Greater consistency of results is achieved by grouping the items of the CS in six groups and performance in seven.

Findings/Conclusions: Social capital (CS) allows a better take-up of human capital, monetary and natural production systems.
