Abstract

Objective: determine the effect of three levels of GA3 gibberellic acid, on flowering and four parameters of agricultural importance, in sunflower cv. Victoria.

Design/methodology/ approach: Free-pollinated sunflower achenes cv. Victoria, under the ecological conditions of the Tehuacán Valley. To determine the effect of gibberellic acid (GA3), a completely randomized design was used: three treatments and seven repetitions (n = 21 experimental units). The treatments consisted of: 0, 100 and 200 mg L-1 of GA3 applied foliarly. The variables evaluated were: days to flowering, yield, leaf area, plant height and chapter diameter. When the response variables were significant, the Tukey test was applied to a level of significance of 5% error probability.

Results: The application of 200 mg L-1 of GA3, it achieve to advance up to 26 days the flowering with respect to the witness, In addition to having a positive effect by increasing the leaf area and grain yield.

Study limitations / implications:  The GA3, positively affects the sunflower crop up to a dose of 200 mg L-1. Doses less than 100 mg L-1, are not recommended for sunflower, since there is no response.
