Abstract

Objective: To know and analyze the educational and labor perspectives of high school students in the municipalities of Metlatónoc and Cualác, Guerrero.


Methodology: The subjects of the study were the students who attended the sixth semester of the Baccaulaerate schools of Cualác and Metlatónoc, to which a census questionnaire was applied to 82 of them (44 women and 38 men) to gather information about their aspirations, educational and work expectations. The information was analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Results: The young people are of Tu’un savi (Mixteco) and Náhuatl origin, with ages between 17 and 21 years old. More than 50% of them work and study. Their parents are peasants and their mothers attend the home, they have a low educational level, 25% are illiterate and 50% did not complete primary school. The students chose the Baccaulareate because of the lack of economic resources to study in another place. They have an enthusiasm and interest to finish their technical career and continue studying at the university (80%). As job expectations, they are inclined towards education, commerce, cars mechanic, office and agricultural activities.
Study limitations: In this survey, only students were interviewed, not parents or teachers, which would have allowed a more complete study.
Conclusions: Parents, despite the low level of schooling, support their children, who are willing to learn, finish their baccalaureate and continue studying at the university to have a good job, security and good economic perceptions.
