Abstract

The Mountainous Mesophyll Forest (MMF) is an ecosystem of high biodiversity in the world and one of the most threatened in México. It represents approximately 1 % of the plant cover in México, and in the state of Veracruz there is an important area. In Huatusco, Veracruz, México, it is possible to appreciate primary and secondary vegetation in this valuable ecosystem. Through geographic information systems (GIS), the land use and vegetation maps 1:250 000 Series I to V were analyzed, and their spatial variation is presented compared to the annual change rates (ARC) and the percentage of change (P) between five periods of time included between the years 1985 and 2013.
